How can we help connect various publics with science through storytelling?
People have a lot they can learn from science, but science also has a lot to learn from people. This is the promise of the "engagement" model of science communication, where dialogue between scientific systems and the many overlapping publics that matter to those systems can deepend the positive impact of science for everyone.
How can we make it easier to engage in science as it relates to our daily lives? One possibility is through storytelling. Drawing inspiration from design fictions, futures research, and upstream models of science communication, we seek to build a system to encourage people to reflect on their hopes, fears, and experiences with open scientific directions, crafting stories to illustrate those ideas in contextualized ways, and to foster a productive dialogue between scientific institutions and the people whose lives are touched by those institutions.

We are collecting perspectives from current researchers to inform the design of our system.
